Alamelu Annamalai is an ambidextrous visual artist from Chennai, India and is currently pursuing her MFA degree at Oxford Brookes University, UK. After completing her Visual Arts degree in 2015 from Stella Maris College, Chennai, she has been practicing independently. Her works are a part of collections both in India and internationally, with two solo shows and several national shows.

Her practice is rooted in the complexities of human nature and changes in the ever-evolving society, with nostalgia and memory informing her work. She responds to the surrounding environment and uses everyday experiences as a starting point. Currently her works focuses on the dysfunctions of language and communication which is used to visualise reality, the attempt of dialogue, the dissonance between form and content. Although she works mainly with painting, printing and illustration, the subject matter of each body of her work determines the medium.
