Welcome to OBU Atelier!

Welcome to the new website for OBU Atelier. This project was launched to support creative arts students at Oxford Brookes University in their first steps into a career as a working artist or creative.

Why is OBU Atelier needed?

Getting established as an artist is extremely difficult. Finding a gallery to represent you can be a bit of chicken-and-egg experience with galleries looking for a track record of exhibitions but the most exposure coming from exhibitions in those same galleries. Many would-be artists end up in other work while trying to support their creative journey, but we know time to create, sapce to create in and a suppotive community are key elements to becoming a successful working artist and we're here to help you on your way.

What will we do?

We aim to offer career support by hosting our own exhibitions, providing a platform for promotion and sales online, and offering continuous professional development to bridge that gap between a university course and life as a working artist. From practical help on issues such as framing or photographing your work to help with business planning, budgeting, and essentials such as insurance and tax returns, come back to the blog or our resources section for the help you need.

Artworks by early career artists for sale

Along the way, we’re offering our customers a chance to connect with early career artists, buy their work and support fledgling careers. We can also put you in touch with creatives for your project should you need some imaginative input.

Collaborate with us!

Along with fine art students on undergraduate and postgraduate courses, we represent students from graphics, illustration and photography courses. Brookes also has a thriving music faculty. Whether you work in another department and need some creative input for your project, have an idea that needs illustrating, or are working on a limited budget and would like some student help, we’re here to help you make connections with the people that can assist.
